Artist's Statement
My paintings come from a place within me, unfiltered by stimuli manufactured in the physical world. As a self-taught artist, I discovered that both figurative and non-representational abstract work suits me. Certain forms find their way into my art as these objects/forms have made an indelible impression on my psyche. Color, brush strokes, scraping, rubbing and numerous other techniques that go into rendering a work is as important to me as the overall image I attempt to create. When a viewer looks at my work I want him/her to put away pre-conceived notions of reality; and, with any luck, realize that these works are portraits and landscapes of the soul’s memory buried deep inside us all.
